2D Digital Imaging and Animation
The Moon Landing
The brief for this project produced a varied list of historical events from recent history. The task was to complete a short 2D graphic motion from one of the events listed. I decided to go for the Moon landing mission, an event that I had interest in prior to this project. This interest grew during the research phase as I understood more on the actual events that occurred during the mission. The 2D objects within the scene were digitally sketched using Photoshop and brought into After Effects for animating and compositing. The sky and space backgrounds were hand-painted using watercolours and scanned into Photoshop for further enhancement and animation. The backing track featured on the clip "Zager And Evans - In The Year 2525" topped the charts during the 1969 Moon landing. A dystopian, apocalyptic song that reflects on the wonders of technology, the lyrics fitted in perfectly for the storytelling side of the animation, with close attention paid on the timing of the sound to help merge the scene transitions.
